My Genealogy Journey: Year One

October 18, 2017

I have been working on the Jacobs Family history for about 18 months now. I have learned a lot and met so many interesting and wonderful people.

I have connected with amazing people like Michelle Nadrasik Dionyssiou Mains, a person I respect and a relationship I will value for the rest of my life. I truly love you Michelle. Along with Michelle, I have had the pleasure of getting to know folks like Wendy Davis Syroka, a like-minded relative who shares my views and values. I applaud how both of these special women walk this earth.

Jo-Anne Nadrasik Chrysochoos has been a blessing to me from the start. Jo-Anne has provided me with the gift of information and given me her unwavering support and I am so grateful to her for both of those things.

I have enjoyed many conversations with Lisa Garry Wilson, someone who will always give it to you straight, which is something I value and appreciate.

I have come to admire Gary Jacob, as someone who holds his family in high regard and who loves his family so deeply.

Last year at Christmas time I was able to speak to Geri Anderson, our oldest living relative. Geri provided me with historical information and perspective that no paperwork could have ever given to me. I look forward to talking to her again this year.

I have had several conversations with Jim Forrester and even though Jim and I do not see eye to eye on very many things, we have connected in a real and authentic way. Connecting in a real and authentic way is much more important to me then whether we agree or disagree.

I am very pleased to have met Linda Mahfoud. She is a family member who I met on ancestry.com that shares my interest in genealogy. We have not established the exact link to our families yet, but we know it’s there. Either way she and I are linked as friends. I hope we can all take a trip to Becharre one day and that Linda will be with us.

And last for now, but not least, Henny. I met Henny on a site called Find a Grave where Henny is a volunteer who graciously takes pics of cemetery monuments so no matter where you live, you know where to find your relatives. Henny is an amazing, intelligent and insightful woman who has touched my life in so many ways. If you’re looking for somebody to sugarcoat something, well it’s probably not going to be Henny. If you’re looking for somebody to share their thought provoking opinions and valuable insight with you–then she’s your girl. Rita, I’m looking forward to meeting you in June of 2019 so keep fighting the good fight.

These are just a few of the many connections that I have made in the last year and a half.

I have connected with more people than I could possibly name here, and all of you are really important to me.

I look forward to getting to know more of you this year.

For this coming year I have some goals for Toledo Jacobs.

First, I would like to put our family tree online, laid out in a way that everyone can see and interact with it. Our tree currently has 1500 plus people on it.

I would also like to get our reunion planning done. June of 2019 will be here before we know it!!

I would really love to see folks inviting people and posting themselves on the Facebook Group.

Please invite any family, family friends or people connected with the family. Please post Pictures, recipes, stories, any home movie footage or anything else that is Jacobs related.

Thanks to everyone for your support.
